Personal Statement – Sample
Understanding human and non-human resources around us always remained my topic of Interest. To learn how to better leverage these and how they behave in certain circumstances, I want to pursue my doctorate in Management Sciences to that I can get Pakistan benefited from the rising event management industry and to make my own event technology company, world’s best Event management and technology company.
Specifically I would like to work with the challenges that Pakistan’s Event Industry has declined in past 10-15 years because of the situation of law and order in country and the gaps found in Public policy to address them. In order to achieve my aim of leading Event Technology Company in Pakistan, I had to be well equipped with Technology, public policy in Pakistan and in general and management. I completed my graduation in Information Technology from one of finest IT institutes in country, PUCIT. The bachelor’s degree in IT helped me get command over technology.
I then worked for 3 years with top technology brands to further polish my technology side and worked on managerial positions that created an aspiration to further study and management and policy aspects. I started my company and hired resources on managerial position and tried to form my company policies.
At that point of time, I realized that to scale the event technology company, we need to collaborate with international event and technology companies and there are so many gaps in public policy of Pakistan for international collaborations, hosting international delegations, hiring foreign employees, providing services to international clients and others. To understand and address all this, I started my masters in Development studies, technology and policy. The master’s program helped me a lot as an executive of my company. I closely worked with UNDP and Punjab youth policy forum and developed an understanding of public policy of Pakistan. We also worked on improvement of youth policy and formation of new policies for event management and technology businesses in Pakistan.
Now, as I have achieved the required knowledge and expertise in technology, policies are being formed and I’ve a running business where I have so many human and non-human resources to manage, I want to learn best management practices and want to learn from case studies and research of historical data and patterns to accomplish my aim to form world’s best event technology company. I feel that the focus on interdisciplinary education at the Information Technology University (ITU) School of Economics places me in an excellent position to undertake courses and research work with the policy makers, tech managers, and other departments at my host university. I feel studying at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) will allow me to gain both the breadth and the depth in this field that is required to tackle the toughest management and policy problems in Pakistan.

Statement of Purpose – Sample
I am an entrepreneur by profession. I like to think differently, innovate artistically, beautify processes and improve people’s lives. Management of human and non-human resources has always fascinated me, for this very reason, I have been working with top technology brands including Naseeb networks Inc., TV2U International, Mars Translations International and ShahRuh Event Technologies, on managerial positions. My primary responsibilities at TV2U International and ShahRuh Technologies include project management and strategy development. During my tenure at Naseeb networks, I gained both valuable insight and had hands on experience with the workings of the technology industry. I gained sufficient practical experience in management, marketing and publicity, venue design and planning, financing, and facility management.
Simultaneously, I have been working for Punjab Youth Policy forum (PYF) as a consultant. My responsibilities at PYF included improving Punjab Youth Policy having all stakeholders on board Altogether this has been a resourceful experience for me since I multi-tasked and learned various techniques and technologies used in process optimization. This made me pursue my doctorate in management science.
The Ph.D. Management Program at LUMS would provide the kind of exposure needed to broaden my thinking and undo my insular prejudices that might be still prevalent in me. In an institution of such confluence of people from every culture, nationality, religion and ideology, I am sure that exposure to these kinds of diverse influences would aid in the overall up gradation of my personality. I also believe that I have a better chance of updating and scaling up my knowledge through this program. I hope to gain solid training in conducting critical research, build teaching experiences, and develop presentation skills. The versatility of courses in this program amazes me, and fosters my keenness in joining this program. I believe that this program along with my determination, hard work, perseverance and dedication will help overcome all hurdles in my future endeavors.
I’m particularly interested in the application of contemporary management science and technology in event management and technology industry. Aspects of management related to entrepreneurship, strategy and innovation shall be within the scope of the research, which I want to pursue. My intention is to develop and apply models and concepts, so as to illuminate and eradicate management issues and challenges facing M&E. To achieve my goal I need to acquire strategic, entrepreneurial as well as scientific research skills. I believe that the PhD program in Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategic Management at your university would best suit my needs, primarily because of the interdisciplinary nature of the program.
Although I cannot prematurely predict the course this research might take, however, I expect that it will unleash the hidden potential of the Event industry. This research could either enter into an entrepreneurial or a sociological precinct, nevertheless I anticipate that it will serve the public interest. Moreover, I expect that the research will address the following subjects and issues. First is the predominant issue of political and external influence on Event Industry. Though not willing to evade those controversial questions linked to such a remark, I hope to offer as a scientist, an unbiased portrayal of how modern media is largely controlled by powerful people or vice-versa.
In addition, as a researcher, I wish to understand and illuminate the dramatic transformation taking place throughout the Event industry due to rapid change in technology, what famous economist, Joseph Schumpeter, defined as “creative destruction”. Traditional business models have been turned upside down or, in some cases, simply ceased to exist. Therefore, it is imperative to find out, which segments of the Event industry are profoundly suffering from technology disruption and why?
Last but not the least, by means of this research I intend to reshape event industry.
My objectives are to:
· Acquaint myself with various research methodologies.
· Study the Event industry in detail and comprehend the issues facing the industry.
· Conceive new technologies in order to revolutionize the world of entertainment.
· Develop new business models to manage operations efficiently, and also lay foundations for innovation and growth.
· Establish new models by integrating liberal arts, technology and management principles.
· Identify new revenue streams.
The primary reason for embarking on a Ph.D. program at your institution, is that institutional management is rooted into analytics and engineering. Moreover, I do not aim to only become a trained professional in the field of management but I would rather conceive revolutionary ideas, with the intention of producing new knowledge that is relevant to practice. Besides, my passion is entrepreneurship and a Ph.D. would really help me in deep understanding and facts finding about it.
